Plough Inn, Hickling

The Plough Inn is a pretty, rustic-looking pub that sits beside the Grantham Canal and was an accidental discovery for us when we were out driving one day. A couple of weeks later, we headed back for a drink and were really impressed. We didn’t have room for food but what we saw looked wholesome and delicious.

It’s an honest, authentic, buzzing village pub with an outstanding range of beers – we counted five cask ales and three more from Melton Mowbray’s Round Corner Brewing. The vibe is relaxed yet lively with a real mix of people – couples enjoying dinner, cyclists lounging in the garden on a sunny evening and locals at the bar.

The Plough has character. It’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s a pub, not a restaurant and it feels like it’s a place run by people who love what they’re doing. Lucky Hickling! We’re keen to get back there, next time with an appetite.
