Isn’t it great when you stumble across somewhere completely unexpected?
Srey’s Cambodian Kitchen occupies the Old Pharmacy building in the Lincolnshire village of Swineshead and offers something genuinely different from the norm. Recommended to us by a reader who travels through the county regularly, it more than lived up to expectations when we visited.
Husband-and-wife team Jonathan and Srey met while working in Cambodia’s restaurant trade before returning to Jonathan’s hometown six years ago. Today, they run this small, welcoming restaurant together, with Srey preparing dishes inspired by the food she grew up with.
The menu centres on traditional Cambodian cooking, with everything prepared fresh to order. Signature dishes include Traditional Cambodian Tom Yam, a fragrant broth of lemongrass, pineapple, mushrooms, onion and tomato, and Num Banhchok, a traditional Cambodian fish curry served with rice noodles. We also enjoyed the excellent Khmer Chicken Ginger. Other options include traditional Cambodian curry, sweet pineapple and cashew stir fry, plus a selection of British classics and homemade desserts.
An unusual and rewarding find, brought to life by two charming hosts.
