The UK soda market is definitely a few steps behind our US cousins, but talented duo Liam and Laura of Steep Soda Co are running fast to catch up. They are shaking up the UK scene with their thoughtful approach and exceptional flavours.
Liam and Laura carefully source their ingredients, including lemons and blood oranges, from Laudani, a family-run agricultural company in Sicily. They press the juices themselves and craft their recipes with precision, using minimal carbonation to let the flavours shine – a deliberate choice to avoid the overpowering fizz of mass-produced drinks. As Liam explained, too much carbonation often masks poor-quality syrups. You won’t see a syrup within a mile radius of Steep Soda!
Founded in Manchester in 2016 when the couple met at art college, Liam and Laura moved to Leicestershire and set up their base in Barrow upon Soar. They’ve invested in top-notch equipment and use fully recyclable cans with linings to ensure no metallic flavours interfere with their drinks.
Currently stocked at Stonehurst Farm in Mountsorrel, among other shops, Steep Soda Co. is a brand we’d love to see in more local pubs, restaurants and shops. Their passion and dedication to creating outstanding sodas set them apart from the big corporations, making them a true local gem.
