Stoppard’s Butchers of Southwell

Stoppard’s Butchers of Southwell is a delightful family-run butcher’s shop. Four generations of the Stoppard family have been butchers. They opened their first shop in South Normanton in 1870. Current owners John & Lesley have more than 40 years’ experience and were enticed out of ‘retirement’ to open this butcher’s shop in Southwell during summer 2018.

John and his team are passionate about what they do. John often makes the trip to Newark Livestock Market to personally select the beef he sells. All produce is sourced locally from the good relationships he’s made with local farmers.

The dry-ageing cabinet sits proudly behind the counter. Himalayan rock salt dries their meat for a minimum of 21 days, allowing a greater flavour to develop and the meat to become more tender.

Lesley runs the bakehouse on site, producing pies, scotch eggs, hams and the famous Stoppard sausage roll. The shop also stocks a selection of pickles, sauces, bread, cakes, lunchtime cobs and drinks.

As you’d expect from a friendly and knowledgeable team, nothing is too much trouble at Stoppard’s Butchers of Southwell. If you want to know how much to buy or how long to cook your meat, just ask. They are only too happy to help. Stoppard’s makes it easy to support local, British produce.
