Bombay Delicatessen is a real family business. It was founded in 1995 by the Passan family and is now run by their son Rahul. Joining the first two stores in Hyson Green and West Bridgford is their most ambitious project yet, a big city centre venue on Carrington Street in Nottingham’s city centre. As with its siblings, it has a big counter to select from, but it has much more of a destination restaurant feel, cross with a bustling New York deli. The décor features a huge sweeping counter, big picture windows and modern furniture.
Rahul is trying to take the business to the next level, with the website, the social content and the overall brand. Bombay Delicatessen is also about the aesthetic of food. As the saying goes, “we eat first with our eyes” and at Bombay, the food is full of colour too. But at its heart, the business is centred around a passion for food, for old and new recipes. All of their food is freshly created daily using the best ingredients.
Their stores feature large counters at the front full of Indian sweets like samosas, bread pakora, and mirchi bhaji. They have a real street-food approach to their dishes with snacks like salmon tikka, paneer tikka or chili jam salmon. There are also more traditional curries available such as daals, goan fish curry or lamb karahi,
The team recently won Great Taste Awards for their onion bhaji (two stars) and spinach potato tikki (one star).
Our tip: leave room for a chocolate samosa, absolutely divine!
