The Carpenters Arms Italian Kitchen

When John Boddice from Mansfield met Christian Colarieti from Rome in 1999, they didn’t realise that 25 years later they’d be running a restaurant together. But that’s exactly what’s happened. In March 2022 they, and John’s wife Louise, opened The Carpenters Arms Italian Kitchen in Walesby, North Nottinghamshire.

Louise runs front of house and manages the business side, and John and Christian look after the food. They are really passionate about Italian food and drink, but are also keen to ensure that they deliver a traditional Italian experience. They have no great desire to build a brand or an empire, what they want is to run a great restaurant famed for great food and great service. And their Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice award is proof that this is working!

They use local and seasonal produce to ensure each dish is fresh and full of flavour. The team do everything in-house, including smoking, charcuterie-making and growing their own herbs and vegetables. And all desserts are made from scratch.

The menu is rounded without being overwhelming. It’s also well priced too. Starters include crostini al funghi, borlotti con pesto and of course mozzarella campana. Mains feature frutti di mare, gnocchi nuvola and saltimbocca. When Great Food Club visited, the smoked cod with risotto was sensational!

The Carpenters Arms is genuine Italian experience in a converted pub in a North Nottinghamshire village and definitely worth a visit!
