The Castle, Leicester
Part of the Benjamin Pimlico group, charming micropub The Castle sits opposite St Mary de Castro Church on Castle View. Previously owned and operated by De Montfort University, The Castle sits within two Grade II-listed cottages.
As you would expect with such a venue, the doorway is small, the ceilings are low and the interior feels like it’s from a different time, and it’s all the better for it.
Our visit was on a Saturday afternoon in early autumn and although the pub itself was packed, there were some available tables outside in Castle View and on the terrace at the side of the pub.
Drinks include pub staples like Moretti, Neck Oil and Inch’s Cider, regularly updated kegs and some very well-kept cask ales from the likes of Timothy Taylor and Charnwood Brewery.
There are a few bar snacks available such as pies, scotch eggs and classic cobs.
The Benjamin Pimlico group also runs The White Hart in Loughborough.
