The Fire Station Pizzeria, Rothley

Top-quality pizzas sent upstairs by Rothley’s “Lift of Dreams”, plus cocktails and local beers

The Fire Station Pizzeria in Rothley delivers well-made pizza in a smart, relaxed setting. Downstairs, dough is stretched and fired in an open kitchen in a Neapolitan AVPN-approved oven, before travelling upstairs via the much-talked-about “Lift of Dreams” to the dining room.

The approach is simple and disciplined: dough prepared daily, fresh toppings, and strong heat. It shows in the eating. A classic Margherita keeps things clean and balanced, while the nduja and honey pizza brings heat and sweetness in equal measure. The Romagnola, with prosciutto, rocket and parmesan, is another excellent choice, and the house Fire Station pizza adds guanciale, potato and stracciatella for something more substantial.

Starters such as burrata, bruschetta and antipasti boards set things up well, and there’s a thoughtful beer pairing menu featuring brews from Round Corner Brewing of Melton Mowbray.

Upstairs, window seats look out over the village green, and the bar makes this an easy place to stop for a drink as well as a full meal. Open Wednesday to Saturday evenings, with Sunday takeaway.
