Mitsuki, Leicester

From the outside, Mitsuki is a very understated and quite easy to miss. Situated on the busy London Road, only a few minutes’ walk from Leicester station, it’s a one-unit front surrounded by local estate agents, phone shops and takeaways. But it’s a great addition to international food outlets popping up.

Although the frontage is not too dramatic, when you enter it’s a surprising and welcoming experience. The décor features plenty of cherry blossom and traditional umbrellas to transport you from central Leicester to the parks of Kyoto.

But it’s the food that makes Mitsuki special. The menu is huge so allow yourself some time to leaf through it! Appetisers include soft shell crab, gyoza and wasabi prawns and many more. If you’re in a group it’s worth grabbing a few to share. The ramen options are broad too including smoked duck kimchi, salmon teriyaki and spicy beef. But the bulk of the menu is taken up with sushi options including temaki, urumaki, nigiri, sashimi and mixed boxes with plenty of different fillings available. And if you’re not full after all of those, there are plenty of rice dishes, noodle bowls, bao buns, curry bowls and more.

Mitsuki is well worth a visit if you’re looking for a midweek lunch stop or a longer evening dinner!
