The Cock

The Cock is a former Good Pub Guide UK Pub of the Year and part of the excellent Cambscuisine Group, which operates a number of restaurants in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

Hemingford Grey is a charming village four miles east of Huntingdon on the river Great Ouse. It’s home to one of the oldest continuously inhabited dwellings in the country, Hemingford Manor, which dates back to the 1130s and is well worth a visit to hear about famous children’s author Lucy Boston, and visit its renowned rose collection. Hemingford Manor also runs wonderful atmospheric literary readings, including M.R. James’ famous ghost stories!

The Cock has been a popular local destination for many years, serving a good selection of high quality, well-prepared dishes. It is well known for its sausages – such as the “The Cambridge Sausage” flavoured with nutmeg and ginger – all of which are made from scratch, served with mash and seasonal greens and a choice of sauces. The Cock also receives daily deliveries of fish and you might expect dishes such as salted cod with baked celeriac, mushroom broth and pickled wild mushrooms to appear on the fish board. For carnivores there is a steak night on Tuesdays and the pub also offers an excellent-value set weekday lunch for – at the time of writing – £16 for two course and £22 for three.

Expect a good selection of ales and a well-chosen wine list, too.

This place is a popular spot and rightly so!
