The Countryman, Staverton

The Countryman in Staverton was voted Village Pub of the Year in the Daventry District in 2022 and 2023. Linda and Darren Hill took over the pub only three months before picking up the first gong and were “dumbfounded” to win. But they had worked at the pub under the previous owners and when presented with the chance to buy it, they couldn’t refuse!

After working there for over a decade, they knew what needed to change. By introducing new drinks and bar tapas as well as a new menu, they’ve captured the imagination of the locals as well as the award judges.

The pub offers exceptional home cooked food in a traditional relaxed pub atmosphere. They use natural, fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible. The menu gets refreshed seasonally but there is a consistent approach to quality. They blend traditional pub classics like fish and chips or steaks with more adventurous options such as spring vegetable risotto or slow-cooked blade of beef. There is also a full vegan menu too.

With quiz nights, murder mystery events and live music parties, the pub continues to go from strength to strength. We wish them continued success!
