The Crimson Tree Café, Bar & Kitchen

The Crimson Tree has been trading since 2012. It is situated on Nottingham’s Mansfield Road – a road that’s home to several superb independent restaurants, cafes, bakeries, butchers and delis.

The Crimson Tree’s distinctive exterior, with its brightly coloured decorative pillars, hides a spacious café with bar and cosy lounge area to the rear. The décor is light and airy, with Middle Eastern-style patterned tiles and comfortable rustic wooden tables and chairs. When we arrived, the sun streamed through the large windows, creating a bright, warm and friendly welcome.

The Crimson Tree prides itself on sourcing unusual ingredients and on its healthy and tasty food. We opted for a brunch of truffle- and feta-infused scrambled eggs with prosciutto and avocado on sourdough, plus some vanilla and cinnamon toast with apple curd. We were not disappointed: both were delicious.

You can order breakfast, lunch, salads and daily specials here, with tapas and pizza served into the evening. Fresh bread, cakes and pastries are available to take home, too.

It is family (and dog) friendly, and there is some limited seating outside on the pavement. The Crimson Tree is well worth a visit. It is a great addition to this vibrant part of the Mansfield Road.

I have passed the Crimson Tree many times on my way to Nottingham and thought how intriguing it looked. I was more than pleased when a friend contacted me to say would I like to join her for lunch there….(yes please!) I was so impressed with the food, the staff and quirky decor. I had the fried halloumi salad – might sound boring but it was delicious. There was a variety of about six different salads that were all extremely tasty….I was nearly tempted to have a slice of home-made cake but managed to resist…… All in all a great experience and can’t wait to go again (actually not too long a wait as booked for the tapas evening in a few days time!).
