The Old Vol
The Old Vol, is part of the Reddington group of pubs which also includes The Reindeer at Hoveringham. The initial objective was to turn The Old Vol into one of the top 50 gastropubs in the UK. Within only a year it already had two AA Rosettes in the window.
Jack Pearce, a former winner of Best Young Chef, has crafted a wonderful menu with a broad appeal. Pub classics such as fish and chips; Old Vol burger; or 10oz rib-eye are delicious and beautifully presented. For the more adventurous palette, the menu also includes a bibimbap (Korean rice bowl), a trio of bao buns or a decadent 14oz treacle-glazed Chateaubriand. The sides and starters are cleverly curated and include a cod scotch egg, teriyaki oyster mushroom bao bun and chorizo and ‘nduja mac & cheese bites. The Sunday menu is all about locally sourced produce for voluminous roasts. Even the kids’ menu has more nutritious options than the norm.
The design of the pub is contemporary and comfortable. Although the majority of tables are set up for dining, there are some cosy lounge options for drinkers as well. This is definitely a pub for all seasons and the garden is an absolute triumph. It combines a sushi bar, booth seating and air conditioned pods. Little ones have the run of the ‘NG14 Kids World’ which features a Young Volunteer play house, a Co-Op and cinema!
