The Reindeer

The Reindeer at Hoveringham is the sister pub to The Old Vol only a few miles away in Caythorpe. It describes itself as a “traditional village pub with a contemporary edge” and this feels very apt. Its 2023 re-vamp wasn’t too dramatic, it took the features and much of the layout, much loved by locals, and just updated it. It’s certainly not pretentious, and the staff are focused on making a village pub for the local community.

Head chef Andy Goodbourn has pulled together a simple but comforting pub menu including dishes such as slow roasted pork belly, pan-fried hake or venison, onion and red wine pie. When the good folk of The Michelin Guide came to visit, they described the food as “cooked with great care and using quality ingredients, resulting in appealing, flavourful food”. They must have loved their visit as the awarded The Reindeer a coveted Bib Gourmand!

This is a charming pub, beautifully located and without any shred of fussiness. It’s the perfect spot to pop in for lunch and a pint, or while away a Sunday afternoon watching the village cricket from the terrace! An idyllic view, from an idyllic pub!
