Welbeck Abbey Brewery

Welbeck Abbey Brewery, founded by head brewer Claire Monk (pictured) in 2011, is a traditional brewer of cask ales. It is located on Welbeck Estate, not far from The School of Artisan Food, Stichelton Dairy, Welbeck Farm Shop and Welbeck Bakehouse.

Working with her small team, including local lad and brewer James Gladman, Claire oversees the production of 15,000 pints of beer a week, made using malted Maris Otter barley, whole-flower hops from around the world, the estate’s own natural spring water and a unique variety of nurtured yeast. Welbeck Abbey Brewery makes six core beers all year round and two specials each month.

In Great Food Club’s experience, the quality of Welbeck Abbey Brewery’s ales are excellent, from the traditionally malty session beer Red Feather, to the more experimental Night Watchman – a delicious smoked porter.

Claire regularly hosts tours of her brewery and now there is a bar at Welbeck Abbey, where you can sample the beers after looking round.
