White Peak Distillery
White Peak Distillery is a craft distillery founded in 2016 by Max Vaughan who had a dream of creating whisky and other spirits. White Peak was shortlisted in our 2020/21 Awards in the Drinks Producer category.
Max’s dream captured the imagination of some investors and, after meeting two distillers (Shaun Smith and Dave Symes), he was able to realise his ambition.
Max wanted the distillery to be in Derbyshire and moved into the historic Johnson & Nephew Wire Works in Ambergate, situated next to the River Derwent among ancient woodland. And the legacy of the former wire works continues as its motto ‘Virtus Patienta Veritus’ (the virtue of patience and truth) has now been adopted by the distillery and features on the neck of all White Peak’s bottles.
In addition to whisky, the distillery also produces gin and rum – all created in small batches. Distillery tours are also available.
