Northampton Local Producers’ monthly market

By Lisa Hayter, south Northants editor

Saturday July 30 marked the first Local Producers’ Market at Northampton Market Square. This new market is integrated into the existing Saturday market and can be found by following the signs through the square. It is open from 9am until 5pm on the last Saturday of every month.

On a beautiful sunny July day, I thoroughly enjoyed a walk around the stalls looking at the produce. There were several Northamptonshire businesses at present including Brown’s Gourmet Sausages, Saxby’s Cider and DonnaLulu Cooks. I picked up some cheese and Marmite flapjack from DonnaLulu Cooks and I am happy to report that it was absolutely delicious!

The market wants to encourage stalls from all types of local producers from food and drink businesses to arts and craft companies.

In comparison to the rest of the market, the local producers’ area was still relatively small with only a handful of stalls but hopefully more businesses will start attending over the coming months and it will take off. Northamptonshire has an abundance of amazing food producers and a market that showcases them can only be good for the town. I look forward to attending again next month and seeing the market grow as it becomes more established.

More information about the market can be found on the Love Northampton website.
