Cafe at Kings, Barleythorpe

Tucked away within The King Centre at Barleythorpe, just outside Oakham, Cafe at Kings is the sort of place that’s easy to miss.

At first glance it feels refreshingly straightforward: a bright, welcoming café serving good food without fuss. Look a little closer and you’ll find a strong commitment to local suppliers and homemade cooking.

Breakfast is a particular strength. Options range from a full English featuring Farmer Lou‘s Lincolnshire sausages to loaded breakfast muffins, breakfast wraps, smashed avocado eggs and French toast bites. Lunch choices include homemade soup, brisket toasties, salads, sandwiches and jacket potatoes.

The café’s homemade bakes are popular too. During our visit we enjoyed excellent cheese scones, baked by the owner’s mother, while coffee comes from Oakham roasters Two Chimps, using a custom blend created especially for the café.

Open weekdays from 9am to 4pm with easy parking and a relaxed atmosphere, Cafe at Kings offers a welcome alternative to the big chains and a handy stop for breakfast, lunch, coffee or cake.
