For cheese lovers, this is a very good place to know. Cropwell Bishop Creamery has been making cheese for generations and its Cheesemaker’s Shop & Café next door give visitors the chance to enjoy the results in a relaxed, welcoming setting. On the Nottinghamshire side of the Vale of Belvoir, it is part shop, part café and part destination for anyone who cares about proper regional food.
The shop stocks the full range of Cropwell Bishop Creamery’s award-winning cheeses, including Stilton, Beauvale and Blue Shropshire, along with crackers, chutneys, jams and other well-chosen accompaniments. There is also a wider range of local produce to browse. The on-site café serves hot drinks and light bites, with items such as cheese scones, Hambleton Bakery bread and pastries, local pork pies, brownies and more. Coffee comes from Stewarts of Trent Bridge.
There is real history here too. The Skailes family has been making and selling cheese for more than 160 years, with Cropwell Bishop Creamery becoming the focus of the business in the 20th century and growing into one of the country’s best-known names in blue cheese. The creamery works with family farms, supports fair milk prices and continues to invest in the future of the business and its farming network.
A visit here combines great cheese, a good café stop and a strong sense of place.
