Foxholes Farm Shop, Hertford

Foxholes Farm Shop & Butchery in Hertford is a testament to the dedication of owner Catherine Smith. She’s transformed her family’s post-war arable farm into a thriving hub for foodies. Over two decades ago, Catherine began selling her own home-produced beef from her farmhouse pantry. And as demand grew, it was time to create a purpose-built farm shop and butchery. Fast-forward to the present day and it now employs many well trained, dedicated local staff.

The farm’s butchery is highly regarded. They rear their own Aberdeen angus beef, lamb and source the rest from local producers. All sausages are handmade using natural casings and seasonal ingredients, such as fresh leeks and Much Hadham honey.

Local food is very important at Foxholes. They sell fruit and veg from local suppliers; over 50 British cheeses; home-baked bread and plenty of wonderful deli produce. There’s also lots of local wines and spirits on offer. Plus beer from locals New River down the road in Hoddesdon!

And if you have time to stay a while, they serve up freshly cooked food from the deli counter and butchery. Plus hot and cold drinks served all day!
