The Arch, Borehamwood

The Arch is proudly located on Borehamwood’s busy Shenley Road amongst retailers and other food outlets. From the outside, it has the feel of a low-key restaurant you’d find in a midwestern town in the US. But the exterior doesn’t really do it justice.

There are two entrances: the main one on Shenley Road caters more for those looking to grab and go, and the side entrance is more for restaurant diners. But whichever way you enter, your senses are immediately taken over with the amazing aromas. The smell of fresh chicken or lamb smoking over hot coals guarantees you’ll be hungry the second you sit down.

The restaurant layout is full of arches (as the name suggests) which means tables have space and privacy. But that doesn’t detract from the busy atmosphere.

The Arch is a family run independent, but it’s mixing it with some of the big players in this space. A finalist at The British Kebab Awards due to the friendly, attentive service and the quality of the food. Wonderful warm flat breads with homemade spicy dip, followed up by flavourful starters such as sigara borek, lamb liver, falafel as well as hot and cold mezze platters. For the main course, make sure you get something from the grill! Whether it’s lamb ribs, chicken kulbasti or lamb shish, the meat has that perfect combination of smoky on the outside and beautifully tender. Portions are well sized, and the food is beautifully presented . Make sure you leave room for some Turkish Delight before you leave, a glorious pistachio texture!

This is a place many will wander past without realising. But locals know that The Arch is an absolute gem and well worth a visit!
