The Sourdough School is dedicated to offering affordable, ethical and inspirational bakery courses.
Vanessa teaches just four or five people at a time, which means the sessions are informal and relaxed, and there is plenty of time to devote to each student. “My philosophy at Sourdough is to have time to chat and to learn. A warm, friendly, relaxed environment is the best place to absorb new sourdough baking skills, and that’s exactly what my kitchen-classroom offers. In my book, bakery courses should be fun. You will learn plenty of new skills in a day, but also make new friends and laugh a lot.”
Sourdough students have access to a wonderful Victorian kitchen garden where they can pick fresh herbs and heritage vegetables, while Vanessa’s chickens provide fresh eggs.
“Too often cooking is prescriptive and stressful,” says Vanessa. “I love to show people just how practical and cost-effective it is to bring the kitchen, the garden and local ingredients together to create delicious breads that you will bake again when you get home.”
