Manor Organic Farm Shop
Run by Graeme and Vivienne Matravers and team, Manor Farm Shop is located in the middle of a working organic farm. As you drive up the farm track, past the animals and towards the small car park, it’s clear you’re visiting a genuine farm shop rather than an outlet with nothing more than agricultural pretensions.
On site is an award-winning food shop, butchery, bakery and tearoom, around which wander rare-breed Longhorn cattle, turkeys, pedigree Lleyn and Polled Dorset sheep, chickens, geese and ducks. You might also bump into ‘Snuggums’ the donkey, goats, rabbits and other animals.
All the meat raised on the farm is sold in the shop (and online), including organic beef, lamb, mutton and poultry, while pork and venison are sourced from other local producers. In the shop you’ll also find organic vegetables and dairy, plus groceries, wine and beer. Meanwhile, the on-site bakery produces freshly baked bread and other delights, and the tearoom-café in the converted granary offers lunches, cakes, teas and coffees.
Graeme Matravers explains: “We have been farming organically since 1989 and believe it is a positive philosophy, more than just avoiding chemicals and fertilisers. It is a sustainable approach that views the farm as a whole system in harmony.”
Manor Organic Farm is also part of an environmental scheme that aims to restore wildflowed meadows, traditional grasslands and hedgerows. As if that weren’t enough, the shop, bakery and tearoom are powered almost entirely by solar panels on top of the sheep shed.
