The Bok and Rose is a beloved South African butcher and grocery in How Wood, just south of central St Albans. This is a real community favourite and the go-to for authentic South African favourites. It was founded by Kevin Cunningham, a South African national who moved to the UK in 2015. He realised there was a gap in the market for a taste of his homeland, and The Bok and Rose was born.
Not only is this a place to pick up all kinds of South African groceries, sauces, wines and snacks; but it’s also a meat-lover’s paradise. It combines traditional South African butchery with quality British meat and is a proud member of National Craft Butchers. This is definitely the place to pick up steak, chops, burgers and kebabs; but it’s also worth grabbing some boerewors, honey pork rashers or their legendary biltong.
This is of course a favourite with the local South African community, but is also bringing a taste of that country to curious St Albans residents!
