The Railway Inn, Ketton

The Railway Inn is a lovely village pub in the village of Ketton just outside Stamford. It’s a Grade II listed building in the shadow of the village church, with plenty of character and plenty of charm.

This is very much a drinker’s pub with an excellent rotating range of cask ales in a welcoming atmosphere. And that’s been consistently noted by CAMRA who named it Regional Pub of the Year for Rutland, Northamptonshire AND Leicestershire for 2024. It won the same title in 2022 as well.

You’ll usually find a local brewery represented on tap. Regulars include Grainstore, Baker’s Dozen, Nene Valley and Oakham Ales. But big hitters from round the country such as Timothy Taylor, Thornbridge and Harveys often put in an appearance.

The interior is a cosy and classically decorated village local. Plenty of comfy chairs, wooden furniture, fireplace, pictures all over the walls and tankards hanging from above the bar. And out back there’s a few tables under a canopy to enjoy warmer summer evenings. This isn’t a foodie pub, but it’s very friendly and serves an excellent pint!
