The Wheel Inn was taken over by David and Sarah Bates in 2022. Their son James, daughter Charlotte and Head Chef Michael Prescott complete the team. Their focus is very much on high quality food, superb drinks and exceptional service.
Located near Belvoir Castle, The Wheel is close enough for the Duke and Duchess of Rutland to occasionally pop in. It’s been a public house for over 200 years, built out of ironstone, and today’s décor is sensitive to its past. It’s one of those amazing rustic, cosy and characterful pubs to be found across Leicestershire and Rutland. A perfect spot to drop in for a pint on a dog walk or enjoy a relaxed Sunday over a big roast and a glass of red.
They take their ale seriously at The Wheel. They blend big name breweries such as Castle Rock, Adnams and Black Sheep with local brewers and micros. This commitment led them to becoming deserving winners of Vale of Belvoir CAMRA Leicestershire Pub of the Year.
Food-wise you’re spoilt for choice. To start, there are fresh soups or whole baked camembert, and mains include belly pork, fresh fish and pies, plus roasts and burgers on Sundays. It’s classic and modern cooking using local ingredients throughout. But make sure you leave room for the homemade ice cream before you depart!
