Salerno’s Ristorante

Salerno’s Ristorante claims to be “authentic Italian” and their heritage definitely justifies that! The family originate from a town called San Giorgio Del Sannio near Naples, where Gerardo Salerno’s mother, Serafina, was a renowned cook. Gerardo came to the UK in the early 1960s and settled in Peterborough. And with his upbringing, it was perhaps inevitable he’d go into the restaurant business. He started his first restaurant in the early 90’s and then in 2015, Salerno’s was born. Salerno’s is a real family restaurant, with Gerardo’s son Stefan and daughter Gabriella very much involved.

The focus of Salerno’s is to serve only the finest traditional food from homemade classic recipes. Their menu is well rounded without being overwhelming with plenty of familiar options. They serve a range of antipasti such as arancini, fritto misto and bruschetta; pastas like carbonara, gnocchi and tagliatelle; and delectable meat dishes such as scaloppina alla Milanese and tagliata di carne.

And of course, from a family that originates from near Naples, they take their pizzas extremely seriously! All are made from Italian 00 flour, fior di latte mozzarella and Italian tomatoes. And all are proofed for 48 hours before spending 2 minutes in the 500 degree pizza oven, to create a wonderfully light crust. And there’s no need to choose ‘the calzone’, every pizza on the menu can be folded up if you ask nicely!

Salerno Ristorante is “authentically Italian”, but really, it’s truly Neapolitan!
