The Inkpot (with its online shop) is a 100-acre organic farm and permaculture demonstration centre near Sleaford. It is named after the shape of the farmhouse. The owner, Hannah Thorogood, has a MSc in Organic Farming and designs and runs courses in permaculture.
Her farm is a model of post-fossil fuel farming. She farms the 100 acre site without a tractor and is focused on the long term resilience of the land by rebuilding the health and fertility of the soil. For example, the grazing of the cows and sheep are managed through mob grazing. A small area is grazed at a time, and the animals are moved on each day while the pasture recovers over several months.
The farm and shop are open on the first Saturday of every month, 10am-4pm, for farm tours and refreshments. Not only can you meet the animals, but also hear about permaculture and its role in biodiversity and sustainability. You can also pick up some fresh organic eggs, homemade jam and even a few balls of wool. But don’t leave without trying a pulled beef bap, they’re absolutely sublime!
