When Kara and Phil Triggs took ownership of The Manor House in 2005, it needed some significant improvements. A 3-acre site which needed to be, in their words, “born again”. Over the course of two decades the couple (with the help of many others) restored the Manor to its former glory. It’s now a successful gastro pub with some beautiful accommodation. The management team take the view that the Manor is more than a place to grab a drink, to them it’s a community hub.

Talking of drinks, as The Manor is a Freehouse, they work with breweries they trust and have up to four cask ales per week. The Manor is regularly in the Good Beer Guide, and there’s even a discount for CAMRA members. For non-beer drinkers there are plenty of wines to choose from, and all are available by the glass.

But it’s definitely worth staying for a bite to eat. The team of chefs led by Johnny design a changing seasonal menu and create all dishes on site. They take quality extremely seriously and buy local whenever possible. For example, meat from Owen Taylor & Sons, beer from Charnwood and dairy from Manor Farm. But what is consistent is that all of the suppliers have an ethical approach.

Menus are broad and varied, without being overwhelming. Breakfast options include avocado and spiced chickpea on toast as well as bacon sandwiches and a full English. The winter main menu includes pub classics like burgers, fish & chips sitting alongside stone-baked pizzas, wholesome stews and starters like beetroot & goats cheese flatbread. Plus on Sundays, you can add traditional roasts to that menu. All home cooked, and ethically sourced.

So if you’re in Quorn anyway, pop in for a beer and a bite. And if you’re visiting the area for a day or two, The Manor is a lovely place to stay!
