Viva Vino started out delivering wines to trade customers around Rutland, south Leicestershire and north Northants. But now, wine-lovers like you and us can enjoy the unusual and interesting wines that Chris Richardson offers – with the added bonus of free delivery to your door (if you live in and around Market Harborough, Rutland, Desborough, Rothwell and the Langtons).
Chris used to be a publican and deli owner who bought his wines from Viva Vino – he even used it for his own wedding. In 2015 he took the plunge and bought the company. With an extensive and approachable wine list, enough glasses to cater for parties of up to 500, a sale-or-return policy and wine delivered chilled and guaranteed to stay that way for 48 hours, he is well placed to cater for weddings and parties.
You won’t find Viva Vino wines in supermarkets, so they are perfect if you like to try something new. You choose from the wine list or – if you’re adventurous – order a Jolly Good Box and let Chris do the choosing. Tell him if you have any preferences (grape, wine colour, wine style), pick your price – six wines/£50, 12 wines/£95 or 12 wines/£120 – and then wait for delivery to your door, which is normally within a couple of days. With 180 wines on the list, priced between £7.50 and £37 and coming from regions as diverse as Argentina, Thailand, Italy, South Africa and Chile, there is plenty of choice and variety. At the time of writing, Chris is planning the nationwide delivery of Jolly Good Boxes, so watch this space.
We gave Chris (almost) free rein to choose a case for us. It was liberating to let someone else select the wines, many of which we would not have chosen ourselves but thoroughly enjoyed. Our case included a delicious Romanian Sauvignon Blanc, a plummy and rich Bordelaise blend from South Africa and a fresh and fruity Spanish Macabeo. These all punched above their weight for the price and were a welcome change from the old favourites.
Viva Vino is a fun way to buy wine, without the pomp that can often be attached. But this doesn’t stop the wines or service being interesting or professional. For an easy, interesting and affordable way to buy wines, to expand your vinous horizons and to meet potential new favourites, Viva Vino ticks all the boxes.
