Carmela’s Kitchen

Carmela’s Kitchen is run by Carmela Sereno Hayes, a Northamptonian with Italian blood coursing through her veins! A pasta expert and cookbook author who has written for this website, she runs cookery classes and demonstrations in her family home, occasionally making use of her Sicilian-imported garden pizza oven. Constantly inspired by her roots (her parents moved to Bedford from southern Italy in the 1950s), she is a fan of authentic, traditional Italian cooking. Her cookbooks – ‘A Passion for Pasta’ and ‘Southern Italian Family Cooking’ – give clues as to where her food passions lie.

As well as cookery classes, Carmela also runs monthly supper clubs at The Italian Shop in Northampton. This vintage-style Italian deli offers delicious treats during the day and transforms into a cosy yet rustic supper club by night, hosting up to 16 diners, with eight diners in each room.

If you’re a fan of Italian food culture and cooking, why not try one of Carmela’s courses or supper clubs? Check her website for more details.

Such a great evening with great hosts. You certainly don’t leave hungry! Plus, everything was beautifully fresh and seasonal. I am booked in to another supper club but couldn’t get the initial date I wanted 8 months out, which is testament to how good and popular it is.

I took one of Carmela’s pasta classes a couple of years ago and was so happy to learn how to make pasta properly. Carmela is a patient teacher but full of passion to pass on her vast knowledge of all things Pasta. Her classes would make a great gift for someone or a real treat for yourself.
I’ve also been very fortunate to go along to one of Carmela’s supper clubs. Fantastic value for money with traditional extremely tasty food.
    Highly recommend both.

  3. Avatar Donna-marie says:

Three of us booked a pasta making class with carmela for my sisters 40’th birthday and we had such a wonderful time. Not only did carmela surprise her with a fabulous homemade cake and lunch but our pasta class had us laughing, cheering, (competing) and generally feeling amazed at what we could achieve. We are all still using the skills learned and it has sparked a passion for italian food and helped us get in touch with our own heritage. Carmela is a brilliant teacher and I would recommend her classes for any level. A really enjoyable day.
